Hon. Eric Mothibi Molale is an expert in development economics and has extensive knowledge in socio - economic development issues. His Public Service career spans three decades, and includes policy analysis, and development planning at district and central government. He was appointed Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration in 2014 and focussed on reforming the Public Service, so as to improve efficiency and effectiveness and providing guidance on Strategic Management to all Accounting Officers across all Ministries and Departments. In April 2018, was appointed Minister of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security. He has served as Chair of Debswana, the largest producer of diamonds by value in the world and a flagship diamond company co-owned by De Beers and Botswana Government. He also led several analytical works ranging from mining community development, to ancillary infrastructure development, mining tax administration, skills development, etc.Prior to joining the World Bank he worked in the private sector on all the cycles of mining operations, mining projects finance and participated to the listing of a company on the London Stock Exchange.

Mr. Siwawa has extensive background in the mining industry in Botswana. Prior to joining the Botswana Chamber of Mines, he was employed by Debswana Diamond Company in various capacities from 1982 until 2009.

Prof. Frederick Cawood

Fred is Director of the Wits Mining Institute at the University of the Witwatersrand and a former Head of the School of Mining Engineering at the University. He has qualifications in Mine Surveying, Mining Engineering and Law. Fred has published internationally on mineral economics, mine surveying and mining law and policy matters and serves on several Editorial Boards. He is a co-author of two World Bank books – one on Mining Royalties and the other on Transfer Pricing in African Mining. Fred established the Digital Mining Laboratory at Wits University, which hosts a research group working on 21st century mining technologies, skills and practices. In addition to the Digital Mine, the Wits Mining Institute is host to the Centre for Sustainability in Mining and Industry and the Centre for Mechanised Mining Systems at Wits. Current research projects within the Institute include Responsible mining practices, Mine modernization and Digital technology development for the underground mining environment with a focus on real-time detection of abnormalities, risk detection and management from a control room in an integrated, visual manner.

Dr. Gavin Andersson

Gavin Andersson has had a great variety of work experiences in organisational development, strengthening civil society organisations, and leadership spanning more than 20 years. He started working life as a diamond prospector for De Beers and quantity surveyor’s clerk while studying for a BSc, before becoming involved in re-starting the black South African trade union movement. He was banned by the Apartheid Government in 1976. He possesses a variety of personal skills which feed into his passion for training and capacitation, including, being a guitar teacher, experience finding his own income streams through growing vegetables and learning carpentry. He has extensive experience in and involvement in enterprise creation and civic initiatives. He was founder and co-ordinator of CORDE, which worked with community enterprises in Botswana. He later led a management consultancy, working across southern Africa and in the Caribbean. He has worked in the field of Business Social Responsibility and led the Social Impact Assessments on BP operations in Zambia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique and was peer assessor for the Tanzanian SIA exercise.

Mzila is a Wits University mining engineer graduate with combined experience in mining and investment banking of more than 20 years. This includes seven years in deep-level gold mining at AngloGold Ashanti and Gold Fields Limited in senior mine management and corporate development roles, respectively; and six years in investment banking at Rand Merchant Bank and Deutsche Bank. He joined Exxaro Resources Limited on 01 May 2013 in the role of Executive Head: Strategy and Corporate Affairs reporting to the CEO; his role has evolved over the years to focus on stakeholder management for Exxaro responsible for integrated reporting, engagement and communication with government, community, media and investor relations. His has board experience which includes non-executive director of Merafe Resources, a listed ferrochrome producing company and the Board of Fraser Alexander (Pty) Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of RBH and mining services company. He is currently a member of several Advisory Boards, including the Student Support Programme (SSP), Wits School of Mines and the Minerals Advisory Board of the UCT’s Chemical Engineering Department.

Dr. Busia is currently the Chief of Natural Resources Management Section, Division of Climate Change, Environment and Natural Resources Management at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa. Since 2013, he has led the African Minerals Development Centre (AMDC) in designing and implementing the Country Mining Visions (CMVs) in a number of African countries. The AMDC is currently supporting Ghana, Tanzania, Mozambique, Zambia, Ethiopia, Sierra Leone, South Africa and Namibia to promote mineral linkages and beneficiation within and beyond the mineral sector through value addition and suppliers’ development. He led the AMDC in concluding a study which led to the key recommendation of setting up a National Suppliers Development Programme (NSDP) in Ghana. Prior to Heading the AMDC, Dr. Busia also spent nearly a decade leading the United Nation Economic Commission on Africa’s support to the African Peer Review Mechanism for the African Union/NEPAD, helping the governance flagship program to gain traction and institutional support throughout Africa and globally.

Mr. Aziz Rabbah, the former Minister of Equipment, Transport and Logistics since January 2012, was appointed by His Majesty King Mohammed VI as Minister of Energy, Mines and Sustainable Developmen. M. Aziz Rabbah is an engineer, specialized in new information technologies. M. Rabbah held several leadership positions in the Ministries of Economic and General Affairs, Foreign Trade, and Trade and Industry. He also served as an adviser in the offices of several Moroccan Ministers. Mr. Rabbah was elected Mayor of Kenitra city in 2009 and was re-elected in 2015. He was elected member of the Moroccan parliament in 2007, 2011 and 2016. He is Research and Expertise Center (CEREX) Executive Committee and founding member and a founding member of the Sigma21 association. On the political level, Mr. Aziz Rabbah is one of the leaders of the Moroccan Justice and Development Party, of which he is a member of the General Secretariat for four terms. He was elected national secretary of the youth section of the party for two terms and head of the party's Executives section.

Hon. Foday Rado Yokie is the current Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources of the Government of the Republic of Sierra Leone. He is a Seasoned Politician and an entrepreneur of high pedigree. He has served as a Member of Parliament August 2007 to December 2017 for the Sierra Leone People’s Party Constituency 068 (now 088 in the Bo District). Tumelo Sean Sealetsa is the Founder and Group Executive Director for Boswa Energy Africa. Prior to this endeavour, the young Kanye native had spent a few years in South Africa where he honed his prowess as a businessman. After serving as a Director for GRD Fuels from 2014 to 2015, he moved on in the same capacity to Hertford Trading Enterprises: a group of companies that provides business solutions and products with specialization in a variety of industries such as petroleum retail, mining, energy, property development, hotels and resorts. Mr Sealetsa’s venture into the energy sector developed further from his interactions with larger players in the energy industry such as Sasol and Mzesi Energy. He eventually founded Boswa Energy Africa, which began operations in February of 2017. The company deals primarily in the supply and distribution of petroleum and oil refinery products, with the main offices operating from Gaborone.

Gabaake Gabaake is a former Permanent Secretary for the Government of the Republic of Botswana, at Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water resources, he oversaw the country’s entire diamond and mineral sector, which makes up approximately 40% of national GDP. He also oversaw the energy and water sectors and led the ministry through the challenging chronic power shortages in 2009/10 leading to the decision to build Orapa 90 MW power station in record time. Mr. Gabaake also served as Permanent Secretary in Ministry of Local Government during which time the project implementation capacity of the Ministry and focus on quality of service delivery was improved measurably. He is currently Executive Director at Tlou Energy and leading a team on international and local experts whose dreams are soon to be realised, to become the pioneers of the development of a natural gas industry in Botswana, giving the country a cleaner and much more flexible source of energy.

Sifiso Musa Nkosi is the Executive Chairperson of Ntuthuko Exploration & Mining, a junior mining company currently exploring anthracite coal mining in KwaZulu-Natal. Sifiso has over 12 years’ experience in the mining industry, having previously served as a board member for Isiphenduko Holdings, a joint venture company with Sephaku Cement. He sits on various boards including YIMSA (Youth in Mining South Africa) and is also co-founder of the Junior Miners Forum and Mining Transformation Chamber, an African junior miners chamber with a national footprint representation. He currently serves as a member of the DMR’s Junior Miners Secretariat Committee that was chaired by Godfrey Oliphant - the Deputy Minister of Mineral Resources. He is a partner of the Coniston insurance product, which is currently the only insurance guarantee product open to mining permit applications. He is also a partner of Rands 2 Cents, the only market training product aimed at surface owners and mining affected communities.

Simon Tuma-Waku

Honorary Minister for the Mines and Hydrocarbons (2001-2002), he drafted the new mining code that came into force and is currently used in the DRC. He is a board member of the Accesses Bank of the DRC and a member of the Steering Committee of the EITI/ RD, representing the private mining companies. In 2001 he was nominated as Minister of the Mines and Hydrocarbons in the first government of President Joseph Kabila. He left the government at the end of 2002, after which he started consulting for BICOTIM Sprl. In 2005 he started working as a Special Advisor in the DRC Copper and Cobalt Project (DCP), before becoming Chairman. With the merger of DCP and KCC (Kamoto Copper Company) in 2008, he is appointed Managing Director until July 2009, before becoming the Executive Chairman of the board of the new merged entity. In May 2012 he left KCC to run a new company, Congo Railway Solutions, as Managing Director.

Mr. Alkaly Yamoussa Bangoura serves as Advisor to the President of the Republic of Guinea in charge of Mining Affairs. He was taught extensively at Boke School of Mines and possess vast experience in policy issues, negotiation and review of mining agreements, local content and community development issues. Previous roles include General Manager of the Office of Applied Geology of Guinea, Technical Advisor and General Manager of the Office of Strategy & Management at the Ministry of Mines & Geology, General Manager of the Dian-Dian Bauxite Project, and Field Engineer in Geological Mapping. Mr. Bangoura is a graduate of Boke School of Mines (Guinea) in Geology, and in Geological Engineering & Engineering Management from the Missouri Science & Technological University (formerly University of Missouri at Rolla).

Dr Cox started his career in the mining industry 30 years ago as a learner surveyor. After studying mining engineering as a JCI bursar, he worked for that company in various positions at gold and platinum mines, ending as a senior section manager. In 1987, he joined a privately-owned mining and exploration company, Severin Southern Sphere Mining, as consulting engineer and general manager. Since mid-1991 he has been the managing director of Goldline Global Consulting (Pty) Ltd, an engineering consulting company which serves the mining industry worldwide. He holds a Mine Surveyor's and a Mine Manager's Certificate of Competency. He has a number of achievements to his name, including being the youngest certificated surveyor in South African mining history and designing the country's narrow reef opencast mining method.

Noleen is a geologist with more than 20 years’ experience in multi-commodity mineral exploration and evaluation of gold, platinum, chrome, iron and coal exploration projects throughout Africa and gold exploration in South and Central America, based in Peru. Noleen has been involved with Women in Mining South Africa (WiMSA) since its inception in 2010 and has filled most of the portfolios. She was the chairperson from January 2014 to December 2016. She is an active mentor to young females in the mining industry and vocal through media and conference presentations of the need for role models in this male dominated industry. These include the 2014 South Africa Mining Lekgotla, the United Nations’ African Women Business Linkages Forum in Kenya, Mines and Money in London and the Mining Indaba in Cape Town. Noleen was named one of the Top 10 Global Inspirational Women in Mining for 2016.

Victor Mine, a remote based open pit diamond mine operation, accessible through fly-in and fly-out arrangement. Mr. Elias has an Executive Masters in Business Administration (EMBA) from the University of Toronto – Rotman School of Management, Toronto, Canada; a Bachelor of Science (Bsc) – Metallurgical Engineering from Missouri University of Science and Technology, Rolla, USA and an Emergin Leaders Program (ELP) Certification from the London Business School, London, UK. He is also an inaugural Board Member of the Botswana Institute For Technology, Research and Innovation (BITRI).

Emmanuel Coffie-Anum is the Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Manager of the Ghana Manganese Company Ltd, with the core responsibility of strategic environmental sustainability and development of the mine. He holds MSc Environmental Management and Assessment and Graduate IOSH certificate from the University of Sunderland. He obtained his HSE Manager's Certificate from the Inspectorate Division of the Minerals Commission of Ghana and 35 credit hours in Project Management Profession (PMP) from the IPBM. With over eighteen (18) years in the Gas and Mining Industries, Emmanuel has a wide range of experience within Ghana as well as International experience in coordinating related mining , environmental and corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs. Currently, he is perusing PhD in Hydrogeology and Geotechnical Research into Mine Pit Slope Stability at the University of the Mines and Technology (UMaT). He is an international Speaker in Mining Conferences in Africa, Asia etc. addressing the environmental, economic, health and social impacts and benefits of mining throughout their life cycle, including workers' health and safety across the globe

She has experience of working throughout Africa including in Botswana, Burkina Faso, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Zoë started her career in the extractive industry while working for LAFARGE (Cement company) in Nigeria as their environmental and social manager. She has been living and working in Botswana for the last 10 year. Her experience in Botswana includes a Gender Diversity Audit, Social Risk Assessments and Community Profiling, Social Management Systems, and Stakeholder Engagement for exploration and mining companies such as Debswana, De Beers, Khoemacau Copper Mining and Kopore Metals. Zoë has a sound understanding of the international standards including the IFC Performance Standards and the Equator Principles, as well as understand local legislation and context.

He has been involved with the Haib project from the mid-1990s as exploration Manager and subsequently as Vice-President Exploration for Deep South Resources Inc., who hold the Mineral Rights over the Haib Project.

Nchakha Moloi

He left to join the Wits Economics Department/ANC Department of Economic Planning to start his work in minerals and energy policy research and development. Following employment as a business analyst at the Industrial Development Corporation, Mr Moloi joined the Department of Minerals and Resources where he played a central role in the development of South African mining sector reforms. He is currently the Executive Chairman and Shareholder in Motjoli Resources, a junior resources company that has established a significant foot prints in the South African Mining Landscape.

Sindiso holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree, a Master of Laws Degree and a Diploma in Legislative Drafting and has sixteen years’ experience at the Zambian Bar. She is a member of the Law Association of Zambia and the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply.
