Amb. Albert M. Muchanga, born on May 21, 1959, a Zambian national was elected as the new Commissioner for Trade and Industry of the African Union Commission. Mr. Muchanga was the Permanent Secretary in the Cabinet Office in charge of Parliamentary Affairs in Zambia. H.E. Muchanga was also a former Ambassador to Ethiopia with extra accreditation to the African Union. He has both at home and abroad dealt with issues broadly related to international economic policy analysis and implementation as well as regional integration, foreign policy analysis and implementation.

Previously she was Chief Innovation Officer at Barrick Gold Corporation where she oversaw the company’s innovation program, looking both at how innovation can drive productivity in the existing business as well as how it can be harnessed to deliver alternative business models. She holds a degree in Civil Engineering and an Executive MBA from the Melbourne Business School; as well as a degree in Psychology from Deakin University.

Johan Ferreira has 35 years’ of experience in the mining industry. His experience includes strategic executive leadership roles together with a managerial execution track record of global / international assignments. Over and above his leadership and rigorous operational experience, his areas of expertise include: mine design, project management, the turning around of businesses / operations and commissioning of mining projects. Johan started his mining career in 1986 with Anglo American as a Learner Official and progressed to the level of Senior Vice President Operations - South Africa Region, which later operated as AngloGold Ashanti. Prior to joining Khoemacau, Johan was the Regional Senior Vice President - Africa Region for Newmont, based in Ghana. During his four year tenure with Newmont, he had many successes. Apart from dealing with complex internal and external stakeholder relationships, infrastructure challenges, and new project development, Ghana was one of Newmont’s top performing operating divisions under Johan’s leadership. Johan holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Mining) degree from the University of Pretoria and is a qualified and registered Professional Engineer. Johan assumed the role as CEO of the Cupric group, which owns and operates Khoemacau, in October 2018.

Noleen is a geologist with more than 20 years’ experience in multi-commodity mineral exploration and evaluation of gold, platinum, chrome, iron and coal exploration projects throughout Africa and gold exploration in South and Central America, based in Peru. Noleen has been involved with Women in Mining South Africa (WiMSA) since its inception in 2010 and has filled most of the portfolios. She was the chairperson from January 2014 to December 2016. She is an active mentor to young females in the mining industry and vocal through media and conference presentations of the need for role models in this male dominated industry. These include the 2014 South Africa Mining Lekgotla, the United Nations’ African Women Business Linkages Forum in Kenya, Mines and Money in London and the Mining Indaba in Cape Town. Noleen was named one of the Top 10 Global Inspirational Women in Mining for 2016.

Kgosi has been involved in the development and growth of projects in the SADC region across a number of commodities and metals such as diamonds, copper, zinc, silver and coal. His main tasks are optimisation of coal utilisation and marketing, economic empowerment in coal, evaluation of coal reserves, implementation of clean coal technologies (CCTs) and impact of the use of fossil fuels. This was in recognition of her 26 years of entrepreneurship in the Mining Industry in West Africa, and advocacy for women in the extractive industry in Africa. In 2018, she was awarded Female Entrepreneur of the Year by Invest in Africa (IIA), a non-profit championing African-owned SMEs across the continent. She is a mining entrepreneur and has established her own locally-owned Mining & Exploration supplies company, Georgette Barnes Ltd. Georgette has completed post graduate Certificate in Mining Law & Policy (UG), Principles of Mining Engineering and Surface Mining Operations at UMaT. She established and volunteers for Women in Mining - Ghana and The Accra Mining Network. Interests include local content, socio economic linkages & governance in the mining sector.

He was appointed to the Board of Directors of Minergy in January 2017 as its CFO in February 2017. On 1 August 2019 he took over the reigns as Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”) of the Group.

Eng. with the Engineering Council of South Africa, as well as member of the Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and Mine Metallurgical Managers Association of South Africa, he qualifies as a competent person under JORC. Eugene was intimately involved with preparing the recent scoping study results of VR8 and is spearheading the completion of the company’s feasibility studies towards production of high purity vanadium pentoxide from the Steelpoortdrift Vanadium project in Limpopo, South Africa. Petro du Pisani is Head of Business Improvement at Anglo American Platinum and the current chairperson for Women in Mining South Africa (WiMSA). Before joining Anglo American Platinum she was Head of Business Improvement Projects at Anglo American where she supported the implementation of Anglo American’s Operating Model and various business improvement initiatives across Platinum, Coal South Africa, Kumba Iron Ore and De Beers Canada. She has worked in the Mining Industry for over 25 years. She was a Gencor bursar and as a graduate worked across the world as an exploration geophysicist. Petro has worked as a geoscience consultant, geophysics researcher and has for the past 13 years at Anglo American transitioned from a technical specialist into Business Improvement. In 2018 she formed part of Anglo American’s Elimination of Fatalities task force. Petro holds BSc degrees in Mathematics and Geophysics, and an MSc in Earth Science Management from the University of Pretoria. She is currently completing her executive MBA through the University of Cape Town.

Prior to this, he began his career at JP Morgan, from 2003 to 2007 as part of the UK and the Emerging Market business in Securities division, most of his time there was focussed working with corporates and financial institutional clients in South Africa and the UK from the London office. Thereafter, he spent 10 years at Goldman Sachs, as a Managing Director from 2012, responsible for the Fixed Income Commodities Currency hedging business in the Emerging Market region within the Investment Banking Division in London. During that time, Mr Tremain oversaw Renaissance’s growth as first mover into the frontier jurisdiction of Cambodia and successfully defined a highly economic +1 million ounce JORC gold resource and completion of a feasibility Study. Upon completion of the Emerald takeover, Mr Tremain joined the Board of Emerald as an Executive Director and remained in that role until January 2018.
