Ladies and gentlemen,
 
On behalf of the organisers, PNYX, it is my great pleasure to welcome you all on this timely event of the 11th Africa Security Symposium (ASEC2024), scheduled to take place on May 22-23 in the vibrant city of Addis Ababa. As the Chairperson of this significant event, of course having served as the same in 2019, I am excited to bring together leaders, experts, and other stakeholders to address critical issues surrounding global and African security challenges.

 
In recent years, the world has witnessed an unprecedented evolution of security threats, ranging from terrorism to the deterioration of peace both in the countries, and across the countries, in various regions. ASEC2024 provides a crucial platform to engage in meaningful discussions, share insights, and collaboratively seek solutions to these complex challenges of having peace on the globe.
 
One of the key focuses of this symposium will be the exploration of private sector partnerships and intensify their role in mitigating security risks. We believe that fostering collaboration between the public and private sectors is essential for developing effective strategies to counteract emerging threats. Through open dialogue and the exchange of ideas, we aim to identify innovative approaches that leverage the strengths of both sectors in ensuring the safety and well-being of our communities.
 
The ASEC programme includes engaging discussion panels featuring prominent thought leaders and experts in the area who will delve into the multifaceted dimensions of security. These discussions will cover a wide range of topics, including the current state of global and African security issues, the rise of terrorism, the challenges of maintaining peace, and the vital role of private sector initiatives.
 
Additionally, the symposium will feature a pre-event Defence Attaches Workshop, keynote addresses, networking and social functions, a solutions exhibition and of course, in the afternoon 1-2-1 public-private matchmaking meetings as we look to emphasize the importance of investing in peace as a sustainable solution to the complex security landscape.
 
So, I encourage you all to actively participate in this important symposium, share your expertise, ideas and solutions, and contribute to the collective wisdom that will emerge from this gathering. Together, we can forge new partnerships, generate actionable insights, and chart a course towards a more secure and peaceful Africa.
