It is my great honour and privilege to welcome you to the 10th Anniversary of the Africa Mining Summit (AMSX) here in Botswana. Over the next few days, we will engage in insightful discussions, share innovative ideas, and explore the synergies between the mineral and energy sectors under the theme “Harmony in Resources: Navigating the Synergy of Minerals and Energy for Sustainable Development.”
 
As we celebrate the Africa Mining Summit’s (AMS) milestone, it is important to reflect on the progress we have made over the past decade. AMS has evolved into a cornerstone event for industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders from across the continent and beyond. Together, we have navigated the complexities of the mining industry, addressed challenges, and identified opportunities for growth and sustainability. This summit has become a vital platform for collaboration, fostering partnerships that have driven innovation and progress within the sector.
 
This year’s summit is structured to reflect the Botswana Ministry’s focus on both Minerals and Energy. The two days of plenary sessions will be split accordingly: day one dedicated to Energy and day three dedicated to Minerals. This division allows us to delve deeply into the unique challenges and opportunities within each sector while also exploring their interdependence.
 
Hosting this summit in Botswana is particularly fitting. Botswana has long been a leader in responsible mining, with a commitment to sustainability that serves as a model for other African nations. The country’s dedication to balancing economic growth with environmental stewardship is exemplified by its robust mining policies, strong governance, and forward-thinking initiatives.
 
We not only celebrate the nation’s rich mineral heritage but also its visionary approach to integrating mining and energy solutions. Botswana’s success in managing its resources responsibly, while investing in energy infrastructure, demonstrates the power of synergy between these sectors.
 
As we navigate these discussions, I urge all delegates to actively participate, share your expertise, and seek out new partnerships. The challenges we face, whether in managing mineral resources, advancing energy solutions, or ensuring sustainable development, require collaboration across sectors, borders, and industries - the Africa Mining Summit significantly furthers such efforts.
