Rosemary was educated at Roedean and Wits University where she obtained a BSc majoring in Geology and Botany. She subsequently obtained a Masters and a PhD from Wits and went on to start working in coal related subjects. She undertook advanced training in coal science and technology in Germany and the UK and has been involved in coal topics for over 50 years, in corporate, consulting, academic and research positions including consulting to Eskom for over 20 years. She has written over 80 publications, co-authored three books, contributed a number of chapters in other books and produced more than 2000 technical reports on coal-related applied industrial investigations, research and development. She was appointed SARChI Professor of Clean Coal Technology in 2007 from which she retired in 2018 and is now Professor Emeritus at the University of the Witwatersrand in the Engineering Faculty. In her retirement, Rosemary is Editor of the Journal and Chairman of the Editorial Board for the SA Institute of mining and Metallurgy, is Co-Editor of a book on coal combustion and power generation for Eskom and a Director of the FFF Carbon. She consults to users of coal and is an expert witness in coal-related court cases and arbitrations. Lionel, her husband of 60 years, died in 2023. They have 3 children and 8 grandchildren. Rosemary lives in Waterfall Hills Mature Lifestyle Estate.

Dr. K. Fichani has private and public sector experience having spent three years as a Principal Mining Economist in De Beers in their Johannesburg office and more than two decades in the Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources where he served as Chief Minerals Officer. He is a past Director in the Botswana National Sports Commission, Okavango Diamond Company, BCL Ltd and currently holds Board committee positions in the Standards and Professional Practice and the Education and Accreditation committees of the Engineers Registration Board, where he chairs the latter committee. He lectures in Mining Engineering at BIUST.

He has been in coal since 1977, established the Geological Survey’s National Coal Database (NCDB); was Genmin IT Exploration Manager and joined the Minerals Bureau, DME in 1995, as Chief Mineral Economist; Coal and Hydrocarbons. He was appointed Coal Senior Analyst, Wood Mackenzie, Southern Africa and since 2009 is consulting privately with XMP Consulting. He promotes South Africa’s coal mining industry within government and industry groups, lectures at Universities as well as companies on coal science, i.e. coal reserves, economics, quality control, marketing and clean coal technologies. He has extensive experience in reserves and resources. His main tasks are optimisation of coal utilisation and marketing, economic empowerment in coal, evaluation of coal reserves, implementation of clean coal technologies (CCTs) and impact of the use of fossil fuels. Xavier belongs to several local and international coal committees and groups involved in coal science and technology.

Keneilwe Goitsemang Orapeleng is currently the Head of Mining at Morupule Coal Mine. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering from Missouri University of Science and Technology, USA. She joined MCM in 2008 as a graduate trainee where she served in respective positions at various levels. She is an experienced individual with a demonstrated history of establishing and leading a skilled workforce in the mining industry both in the production and technical functions. Keneilwe has undergone the Management Development Program with University of Stellenbosch. With a solid 13 years of industry experience, Keneilwe is the first female to attain an underground blasting license in Botswana. A woman of many firsts, Keneilwe has paved the way for fellow female mining engineers through the years. She has been appointed as the first female in various roles throughout her career in MCM(Underground Coal Mine Environment), including that of Section Miner, Shift Overseer, Mine Overseer, and Underground Manager-all responsible for underground.

Mike Teke is the CEO of Seriti Resources Holdings which he co-founded in 2018. His qualifications include a BA (Ed), BEd, BA (Hons) and an MBA. Mike has held HR roles at several companies including Unilever from 1992 to 1994, Bayer from 1994 to 1999, BHP Billiton from 2000 to 2005 and Impala Platinum from 2005 to 2007. Upon his departure at BHP Billiton, he became a founding member of Optimum Coal from 2007 to 2012 where he took on the role of CEO, and later Non-Executive Chairman until 2015. Mike was also the VP of the Chamber of Mines in SA between 2011/12 and subsequently became the President from 2013 to 2017. Mike currently serves as Executive Chairman and controlling shareholder of Masimong Group Holdings and Non-Executive Chairman for a number of companies, including Rolfes, Anchor Group, and is the Chairman of Council at the University of Johannesburg. Prof Nikki (Nicola) Wagner is the Director of the DSI-NRF Centre of Excellence in Integrated Mineral and Energy Resource Analysis (CIMERA), and Professor in the Geology Department at the University of Johannesburg, Johannesburg, South Africa. Her research areas include organic petrology, coal petrography, trace elements and critical raw materials in coal and associated products, coal geology, carbon dioxide capture and storage, coal oxidation, underground coal gasification, coal conversion, ash utilisation, and so on. She graduated from RHBNC, London, with a geology-zoology Honours degree, and completed her PhD in 1998 (Wits). Shortly thereafter, Dr Wagner worked for Sasol in their Coal to Syngas Research Group, as the inhouse coal petrographer. Prof Wagner joined the School of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, in 2006, where she ran the Coal Research group for 8 years before moving back into geology at the University of Johannesburg in 2014. Prof Wagner is a Fellow of the Geological Society of South Africa (GSSA), and member of the FFF-C, SEG, and SACNASP, and has a B NRF rating. Prof Wagner has three children.

Dr Leon Daniels. PhD in Geochemistry from University of Cape Town. Came to Botswana in 1980 as Project Geologist for Falconbridge at Tsabong and subsequently developed firm roots in Botswana focusing on diamond exploration and a small dallying in gold. In mid-1980’s was part of the team that evaluated and developed the Dokolwayo kimberlite in Swaziland for Transhex. It was at this time that he was directly involved in the development of the first independent marketing of primary kimberlite production under a tender system in Europe. Currently, Leon is the CEO of Pangolin Diamonds exploring for diamonds in Botswana, with a focus in the Central District.

A founder and now President and CEO of Montero Mining, a TSXV-listed gold exploration company that has explored extensively in Africa. Prior to this, he was the Executive Chairman of Universal Coal, and listed the company on the ASX raising over A$20 million on IPO. The company now has operating coal mines in South Africa. Tony also listed Africo Resources on the TSX raising C$20 million to develop a copper – cobalt project in the DRC. Tony served as VP Global Generative Exploration for Placer Dome Inc., now Barrick Gold, a major Canadian gold miner for 8 years. He has been a non-executive director of a number of listed companies, including; Endeavour Mining, Adamus Resources, Auryx Gold, African Gold Group, and Lapplandgold miners. Tony is currently a director of East African Metals, Tesoro Minerals and Hudson Resources. Tony holds a B.Sc. (Hons), Ph.D. Economic Geology, the University of Wales, UK.

Kabelo is the Managing Director for Blue Horizon Resources (Pty) Ltd, a Mining and Geotechnical firm in Botswana. Kabelo completed his Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Mineral Engineer at the University of Toronto before working for AECI and Debswana for more than five years for each. Amongst many technical influence Kabelo has had in the Jwaneng open pit, he went to present on the unique work he co-authored with others at the Slope Stability Conference in Spain. Kabelo’s involvement in giving back has been mostly focused on professional development of young professional and his involvement with entities like SAIMM.

In 2015, she transitioned to the Investment arena and progressed steadily to assume the role of Senior Dealmaker at the Industrial Development Corporation, South Africa. Throughout her tenure, Molebogeng led and participated in cross-functional teams, facilitating impactful transactions spanning diverse industries such as mining, services incidental to mining, manufacturing, gas, and more. She has extensive leadership experience and has sat on various Boards in Southern Africa, including serving as an Investment Committee member of Capital Projects Feasibility Programme (“CPFP”) within the Department of Trade Industry and Competition (“the dtic”) and a Member Trustee under Alexander Forbes Retirement Funds.
